The National Statistical Institute presents to the users of statistical information the publication Adult Education and Training.

The publication is bilingual (Bulgarian/English) and contains general results from the carried out by NSI inquiry statistical survey (interview) in the households conducted during the period November-December of the year 2007. The survey main target is to determinate the participation rate for persons aged 25 - 64 years in the different forms of the lifelong learning. It is conducted in all member states in the EU by common methodology and harmonized questionnaire, adapted for the specific conditions in Bulgaria for the purposes of the survey.

The publication contains three parts:

• Methodological notes – there are introduced: the main target and tasks of the survey, used definitions and classifications, the object and scope of the survey, the structure and contents of the questionnaire, the sample design, the method of data collection, as well as implemented weighting of the data;
• Analysis of the basic results of the survey – the basic indicators, characterizing different aspects of the adult education and training, are analyzed. The following sections are systemized: participation in formal education and training, participation in non-formal education, participation in informal education, obstacles for participation in education and training, usage of foreign languages, participation in social and cultural activities, attitude for education and training;
• Tables with main data about adult participation in education and training and other related activities. The data about the observed persons are introduced by different statistical breakdowns - by sex, age, place of residence (urban/rural), educational attainment, economic activity and others.

The publication is designed for wide range of users and introduces results in the area insufficiently surveyed, for instance, participation of economically active population in lifelong learning.
